Event Information
Clinica Esperanza
The Jim Carney PA Student Society and the Bryant University Physician Assistant Program are raising funds for Clínica Esperanza/Hope Clinic, a 501(c)(3) organization that offers primary medical care to Rhode Island residents without health insurance, with an emphasis on Spanish-speaking and culturally accustomed care. The clinic helps tackle a major problem and unnecessary cost in the American healthcare system: overuse of the emergency department for non-emergent medical needs due to lack of insurance.

Clinica Esperanza/Hope Clinic was established over a decade ago in the Olneyville section of Providence with the goal to provide free, high-quality, linguistically and culturally appropriate healthcare to uninsured Rhode Islanders. The vast majority of the patients are immigrants from Central and South America, speak primarily Spanish, and report household incomes of less than $15,000/year. Amongst the patient population, there is a high prevalence of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. CEHC has enacted a number of services to provide free healthcare to these patients, including a walk-in clinic, an educational program that focuses on healthy eating and wellness, and a diabetes clinic run entirely by Bryant PA students and alumni. This year marks the 2nd Annual Run for Hope 5K, an event put on by the Bryant PA Program in an effort to raise money for Clinica Esperanza in the hopes of providing more opportunities and access to medical care for our fellow Rhode Islanders.

Our goal is to raise $6,000, which will be used to stock the clinic with medical supplies, provide support for patient health education programs, and provide patients with home medical devices.
